Medical Activities:
In
1986, the Adhiparasakthi Charitable Hospital and Research
Center started FREE medical services
covering more than 750 villages and hamlets around Melmaruvathur.
Records show that the charitable Hospital treated more than
60,000 out patients in 1986 and the number of out patients
has increased to more than 2.5 lakhs in 1995.
From 1991, every year, FREE
eye camps are conducted a Week before His Holiness
Birthday at Melmaruvathur. The eye camp of February 1996 treated
2000 patients and 10 highly qualified Ophthalmic surgeons,
assisted and supervised by the Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai
performed cataract operations on 596 patients.
Free
immunization programmes taken-up whereby Polio vaccines and
triple antigen are administered to infants and children. Lady
doctors of the Adhiparasakthi Organization render free maternity
assistance to the rural womenfolk.
Medical
camps for general check-up, Dental camps, Skin camps, ENT
camps, Geriatrics camp, Pediatrics camp, Veterinary camp are
conducted free. Blood donation camps are also held every year.
Excellent
modern methods and treatment is been extended to the rural
community. Screening of women for cancer cervix by Pap smear
method is also done at Melmaruvathurs charitable Hospital.
Having
done a Yeoman service to the rural community in and around
Melmaruvathur for the past 10 years, it was also necessary
to expand and extend the health services to the needy rural
community through out-reach measures.
As
ordained by His Holiness Bangaru Adigalar, the first phase
of a 200 bedded hospital has been constructed and is to be
commissioned shortly. This hospital will be upgraded to a
2000 bedded hospital in the subsequent stages.
For
a wider spectrum of health care to reach the masses, there
has to be an incurrance both of capital and recurring expenditure
towards additional space, purchase of equipment, recruitment,
training of staff and transport etc.
The
Hospital comprises of 5 wings depicting the 5 elements
Pancha Boothams (Land, Water, Wind, Fire and Cosmos) with
a central dome representing the Swayambu in the sanctum sanctorum
. The 5 wings will house the following
departments.
. Out Patients.
. Medical.
. Maternity.
. Pediatrics.
. Surgery.
A
research cell has been created for studies in all branches
of medicine from Allopathy to Siddha medicine. Several
members belonging to the panel of doctors at Melmaruvathur
are recipients of National awards.
